Zero stars. Or, negative stars.

HOW AM I STILL SICK? It's been 10 days of progressive misery and sleep deprivation. And I'm about to get on a plane again.

I thought it was bad in New York last week, then it got worse. I seem to be turning the corner today. Maybe it's the "just-in-case" antibiotics, or this thing has finally run its course.

The silver lining was a helpful telemedicine call where I learned:

  • Salt water is antibacterial and sinus rinse is the first thing you should do. It's weird and icky but I believe it.

  • Sudafed 30 minutes before takeoff is the best way to prevent ear pressurization. The pain brought me to tears on the flight home from NY.

  • You need 75mg of zinc to really make a difference. I ditched the Zicam and bought some much cheaper zinc tablets.

  • You can get an Albuterol inhaler from the doctor to curb coughing jags.

  • Antibiotics are a last resort for symptoms lasting longer than two weeks, but if you must get on an airplane to France the nice doctor will prescribe them just in case.

I can't wait to feel human again.
